Wales Rally GB

Wales Rally GB is the UK round of this year’s WRC and is organised and promoted by Motorsport UK, the sole national governing body for four-wheel motor sport in the UK. As a key member of the organising team since 2003, and clerk of the course since 2016, Iain Campbell leads the 2,000 team of volunteer marshals to deliver every stage on time for live coverage across the WRC Promoter’s platforms, as well as ensuring all the planning is in place for the 180 competitors and 100,000 spectators.

Safari Rally

Invited to assist the Safari Rally team to develop their WRC Candidate event to secure a place for Africa on the WRC calendar for the first time in 19 years. Tasks went from chosen routes, safety plans, media plans and itinerary to present to the globe that Kenya was ready to host the world’s best once again. “The team in Kenya and particularly myself will remain forever grateful for the contribution you made to reinstate the Safari Rally back to the WRC Family.” Phineas Kimathi, CEO WRC Safari Rally Project

British Rally Championship & eBRC

The British Rally Championship was ‘reinvented’ in 2016. The small team, led by Campbell, have continuously delivered £2,000,000 of media value over each season. Social media reach is around 29Million and growing. ‘Lockdown’ led to the creation of eBRC. An online rally game, centred around an ‘as live’ special stage programme using stars from the BRC. The idea being that an online gamer would get the chance to drive a real rally car at the end of 2020 being the headline prize

Scottish Government Motor Sport Safety Review Group – 2014

Part of the Safety Review Group set up by the Scottish Government after the fatal accidents at the Snowman Rally and Jim Clark Rally. To take part in a full review of the sport, from regulation to safety planning and to develop actionable points for the sport to deliver to enhance its safety and reputation. Then had to deliver these points on the Mull Rally, the first one to run under the guidelines prescribed by the Motor Sport Safety Review Group.

FIA Rally Safety Guidelines – author

First printed in 2019 and updated annually, this manual gives a guideline to all rally organisers on the safety procedures that need to be in place for any event. Taking on not only the physical safety aspects that need to be built for events but also considering the very early aspects of stage planning, as not every road can be safe to compete on. The manual is also a valuable tool for marshals and officials to ensure that safety is at the backbone of everything they do. Find out more: Download a copy

Mull Rally

Mull Rally – clerk of the course 2011 / 2015 – One of the oldest rallies in the UK and the first one to achieve an Act of Parliament to close the public roads to allow a rally to take place on the road on this Scottish Isle. An event that is not just a rally but a week-long festival that is of utmost importance to the economic balance of the community it visits. An iconic rally that is famous or infamous around Europe for its challenge as a motoring adventure

Rally of Scotland

Rally of Scotland was the UK’s round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, a route created by Campbell to fit around the live TV scheduling of Eurosport ensured that the images were beamed around the globe. Taken from a blank sheet of paper to a rally on the same calendar as the legendary Monte Carlo Rally in just 12 months the small team from the Highland delivered in 2009, 10 and 11 to much critical acclaim.

Scottish Government Working Group for Closed Public Road Motor Sport

The possibility to close a section of public road for motorsport opens up new opportunities for the sport. The Working Group, formed from local authorities, emergency services and representatives from other governing bodies, devised the draft legislation to be presented to the Scottish Government for setting on the statute books.
